An introduction to ‘The Color Purple’

During the sessions reading ‘The Color Purple’ we were devloping the understanding of the historical content and content of the novel. Firstly we established the novelist, Alice Walker and her adaptations to the novel containing both femenist ideas and racism. The characters, living in a time of discriminatory 1950’s experience changes and developments in their situation, specifically the lives of womon, in particular the main character Celie. My thoughts on the novel so far is that Alice Walker cleverly adapts her own situations as a black women into the lives and situations of the women at the time and offers an insight to everyday lifestyles, discrimination and relationships.
